My poems have been accepted for publication in literary magazines in Austria, Spain, New Zealand, Canada, England, Scotland, and Australia.  In the United States my work has appeared in over fifty literary magazines, including Prairie Schooner, North Dakota Quarterly, Hayden’s Ferry Review, the Minnesota Review, Weber-The Contemporary West, Rhino, Notre Dame Review, and Poetry East.

I have published nineteen collections of poetry and five children's books; my work has won several awards and twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. In 2016 I was awarded the William Hunter Sharpe Memorial Prize from the University of Edinburgh.

My short documentary Two of Us was chosen for the Berlin Transart Film Festival and later shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei.

Many thanks to the the writers I have been fortunate to work with - especially Galway Kinnell, Sharon Olds, Robert Hass,  Ilya Kaminsky,        Brigit Pegeen Kelly, Li-Young Lee, Paul Harding,      Lucille Clifton, Yusef Komunyakaa,             Deborah Digges, Edward Hirsch, David St. John, Nick Flynn, Denise Duhamel, Brenda Hillman,          Madeline DeFrees, John Haislip, William Stafford, and Terri Witek.

I like to pause in corner seats and contemplate the moon.  Since I am buried in poems and manuscripts, I imagine one day all those almost almost finalist slips will turn into a field of wild lupine swaying.
